WHAT IS A MACRONUTRIENT? THERE ARE 3 MACRONUTRIENTS THAT ARE VITAL FOR SURVIVAL. THE THREE MACRO'S ARE FATS, CARBOHYDRATES AND PROTEIN.
1) Fats - please eat fat. In America we have become fat-phobic, but our bodies, brains and cells THRIVE on healthy fats. Healthy fats will not harm you. Healthy fats include: nuts, nut butters, whole fat dairy, olive oil, olives, coconuts, coconut oil, coconut flakes, seeds, olives (black, green and kalamata), avocado, avocado oil. Delicious, right?!?!
2) Carbohydrates. Carbohydrates break down into glucose and provide needed energy for our bodies. Most people eat waaaaaaay too many carbs though and don't always choose the best carbs that will fuel their bodies while providing important nutrients. Carbohydrates include fruits, vegetables, grains, and of course cookies, candy, chips etc. I encourage my clients that their primary source of carbs should be fruits and vegetables. Choose colorful carbs!
3) Proteins. Protein helps build and repair our tissues and cells. Protein is a building block of bone, muscles, cartilage, nails, hair and blood. It helps to supports our immune system and as you can see is a very important macro! Sources of protein include beef, pork, poultry (chicken and turkey), seafood, and eggs.
EVERY MEAL THAT YOU EAT SHOULD INCLUDE A BALANCE OF ALL THREE MACRONUTRIENTS.
