Meet Monica

Hey Everyone!  My name is Monica and I am 32 years old, from Monument, Colorado.

A little about me…

I have Hashimotos Disease, Endometriosis, Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, insulin resistance, and have been struggling with infertility/miscarriage for the past 5 years.

Yes, there are a lot of times when I feel like a hot mess!  Looking back on it, I’ve had random aches, pains, and really strange symptoms for the past 15 years, which I have been able to trace back to a very traumatic event; losing my best friend / cousin in a fatal car accident.

The aches, pains, and symptoms only seemed to get worse as time went on.  Doctors from Michigan, New Mexico, California, and Arizona would tell me I was a perfectly healthy individual.  Even family members would comment that I was a hypochondriac.

Yes, I felt like a was going crazy at times but in the back of my mind I knew there was something being missed.

In 2014, I married the love of my life and those symptoms only continued to get worse.

I remember just before my wedding, my mom saying “you aren’t the same person anymore.”  I was so mad at the time but looking back on it, she was right!

My entire mental demeanor had shifted.  When I thought it couldn’t get any worse, we lost a baby to miscarriage, followed by another, and another.  After our third miscarriage in 2016, my husband and I decided to relocate from Michigan to Colorado.

So many would ask why we wanted to leave.  My response, most often, was the job opportunities for my husband, but in reality we needed a new chapter/change in scenery.

I met Kim a few months after moving to Colorado and began working with her on nutrition to help achieve and sustain pregnancy.

Whole30 wasn’t something I actively sought out but was something I knew I had to try.

I didn’t immediately complete a full Whole30. Kim coached me for over a full year before I completed my first one. I would do 10 days and crash, 14 days and crash, 21 days and crash.

Whole30 wasn’t the problem…

As long as I had my meals planned out, it was actually easier than I thought it would be.

Outside factors like pregnancy announcements, baby shower invitations, first birthday party invites, etc. would trigger an emotional response causing my crash.  I mean 100% eat my feelings and fall off the band wagon.  We would get invited to the homes of family and friends and being who I am, I wouldn’t speak up that I couldn’t eat certain things (even though these people knew I had restrictions) because of the work they went through to put these meals together.

I dreaded family parties and the deeply personal questions that were inevitable and so hurtful.

Kim was so patient with me but also didn’t let me use these things as excuses.  What I want you to take away from this is that in addition to being a wonderful Whole30 coach, Kim really gave me the tools to cope with emotional swings in a different and positive way.

She gave me the encouragement I needed to stand up for myself, both when people would say things that were very hurtful and to those who didn’t take my program seriously.

She gave me the support I needed to be able to be open and honest with where I am emotionally with friends and family.

So, where am I today?

I now know that gluten, dairy, sugar, and salt cause a significant inflammatory response in my body and so, I am living a Whole30 / food freedom lifestyle.

I understand now that I feel my best eating this way. Not only do I see a huge difference in the amount of inflammation I carry, but I see a huge difference in mental clarity, reduced anxiety, and fewer emotional swings.

Even my family members join in eating Whole 30 now to support me!

In April we saw our first positive pregnancy test in 3 years. Unfortunately, we lost that baby in May but I’ve never been more optimistic. This most recent pregnancy was the longest we’ve had to date.

Kim was a significant piece of the puzzle that got me to this point.

I’m planning on doing an August and September Whole30 and hope if you are reading this, you’ll join me!

Kim is incredibly supportive, caring, and one of the most authentic people I know.

Contact her; it will be one of the best decisions you make!
