Meet Nicole

I can't wait for you to meet Nicole Iverson!  She embraced her Whole30 journey and is living out her Food Freedom Forever.  Nicole, it was a joy to work with you!  Thanks for sharing your story with this community and good luck with your golf season!

It’s my new lifestyle. It’s NOT a diet. I truly wasn’t sure I could get through the Whole30 program, but I did it!

Taking part in this program and working with Kim, came at a time in my life I now know was meant to be. Encouraged by a friend to look into Bella Natural Women’s Care, where Kim is an exceptional nurse, for struggles with peri-menopause symptoms, I became a patient seeking help to balance out those crazy hormones! The past twelve months or so have been tough for me, physically and emotionally.  I didn’t really know why until the end of last year. I had the good fortune of working with the caring staff at Bella to help me feel human again!

Shortly after my first appointment, I received an email Kim sent to Bella patients about her April Whole30 group. Initially, I kind of disregarded it, and didn’t really think too much about it. But then for some reason, I took a second look, and did a little more research and had that thought in my mind, ‘Well, maybe I should try this…?’

Initially, the timing seemed crazy. My husband and I were just getting ready to go on a trip with twenty three other couples to play golf for a week in the desert.  How on earth would I eat compliant meals in that setting, not to mention give up wine with all of those opportunities for celebration? The more I thought about it, the more I knew in my heart there’s no perfect time to try something like this, so I should just do it.

After talking through my concerns with Kim, I decided I would start the program on my own, a week before the official start with our group, so I could get used to things, ween myself of my wine, and be ready for the challenges of travel. That was the smartest thing I could have done! I learned that what I missed most about not having that glass of wine or margarita with everyone was more the ritual of it. Now I am able to enjoy it more as a treat I appreciate, not just my go-to relaxation method.

I can’t tell you how much better I feel, and how proud I am of myself for sticking to the program. It truly is not hard to make these changes. It absolutely seems daunting in the beginning, but it becomes a way of life, and I can’t see straying too far from this way of eating going forward.

Coincidentally, I had my annual physical as I was wrapping up the month-long reset. My blood work looks amazing and my physician was happy to hear I participated in my first Whole30. My cholesterol, which I’ve battled to keep in check since my late 30's, is very healthy, I’m sleeping better, my arthritis in my hands is nearly non-existent, and in the course of the month, I lost 8 pounds without even trying or worrying about that darn scale.

Now at 45, I’ve decided to be nicer to my body and to honor it by taking care of it from the inside out. I heard a trainer once say ‘You can’t exercise away a bad diet.’ Truer words were never spoken!

My most significant non-scale victory though, is something I didn’t really realize until it happened. One of the biggest benefits of cleaning up my diet has been how much clearer my mind is - that stupid brain fog is gone. With that, my golf game is getting better all the time! (Woo hoo!) I’m calmer and more focused, and I shot my career low round last month! That felt amazing, and I know with my new outlook and lifestyle, I’m gonna achieve my next goal with my game this season, and I can’t wait!
